Newborn Female with Complex Cloacal Malformation (Hendren Patient Case)

Case Overview:
  • Newborn girl with very complex cloacal malformation presented on first day of life, October 1993.
  • Diagnostic endoscopy and colostomy done immediately.
Follow Up:
  • At age 4 years, cystoscopy revealed multiple benign nephrogenic adenomas of the bladder (12), which were removed endoscopically. This was repeated twice later.
  • At age 17 years, the patient elected antegrade cecal irrigation to empty the colon daily in preference to irrigation per anus. Her urine control was satisfactory. Coitus had not been attempted. Sporadic menstrual periods suggest that the uterus-to-bowel vagina anastamosis has remained open.
