18-Month-Old Female Patient with Unusual Cloaca (Hendren Patient Case)

Case Overview: 
  • 18-month-old female patient with unusual cloaca
  • Colostomy for imperforate anus and thoracotomy for esophageal atresia at birth
Follow Up: 
  • The patient’s childhood was normal, with eventually normal urinary control and bowel control
  • Vesicoureteral reflux was evident and the ureter was reimplanted elsewhere
  • She is now 33 years old and menstrual periods are normal
  • She has chosen not to become pregnant, because her renal function is about 50% of normal values
  • She is followed by a nephrologist
  • She considers her life to be normal
