Difficult 5-Year-Old Cloaca Patient (Hendren Patient Case)

Case Overview: 
  • 5-year-old cloaca patient was referred in 1980 as a "nightmare" case
  • All prior surgery had failed including rectal, vaginal, and ureteral operations
  • Previous colostomy and vesicostomy. 
Follow Up: 
  • Bowel control and urine control were satisfactory during childhood
  • Patient developed a squamous cell bladder carcinoma, which was treated with cystectomy and a continent, catheterizable pouch
  • In August 2013, pelvic tumor recurred
  • She was currently undergoing treatment with chemotherapy
