Infant Male Patient 8 Months Old with Down Syndrome and Failure To Thrive

LARA MERINO MATEO, M.D.
Hospital Universitario de Toledo, Toledo, Spain.

Case Summary

This case presentation was about a pediatric patient with Down syndrome and a history of surgical interventions and complications. The patient had multiple admissions due to gastrointestinal issues and received a loop colostomy on the right side and a double loop colostomy on the left side. Despite undergoing several procedures and treatments, the patient's condition worsened, leading to a suggestion for a full thickness open biopsy to confirm the diagnosis. Lara proposed a plan for the patient to gain weight before attempting further interventions, including an end colostomy to better observe nutrient intake. Lara also highlighted a left inguinal hernia and suggested a mapping and full thickness procedure to address it.
